BLACKS win as the season near climax...

BLACKS beat FC Squirrels 9-4 to ensure the title challenge remains viable. The match had goals in each period and was entertaining. BLACKS took the lead 37 seconds into the game with Don #8 placing a top corner shot into the goal from a resulting free hit. FC Squirrels did give BLACKS some trouble by coming back to even the match at 1-1. However, after Don scored the 2nd goal, BLACKS never looked back. Goals kept coming and victory was imminent.

One player from BLACKS who caught the eye even though he did not score was Ishak Jr Ismail #3, aged 23. The multi talent national hockey left midfielder (also hockey coach) was named MOM. He draws inspiration for sports from Brazil soccer star Ronaldinho. Ishak who uses a right BLAST stick partly sponsored by ACCARAT SPORTS is currently studying in SIM's Diploma in Management studies. Probably one of the fittest players in the squad, he is always ready to cover his team-mates and never gives up on any loose ball. On top of that, he is also the joker of the team, always making fun of people. To find out more of his views regarding the victory, we had a little chat with him.

How was the match?
I: The 2nd and 3rd period we played quite well and maintained the structure. However, the 1st period we should have done better. We must attack as a team and also defend as a team. Although we do not have the best players in the world but we must work the hardest.

How do you feel being MOM?
I: Honoured... Everyone deserved to be one as long as they work hard. By working hard, I mean that it is not only the assisting and scoring that matters but also about doing the "dirty work" like defending, tackling and running. Only when everyone does so then our team will be a force to be reckoned with.

Any areas you think the team should improve on?
I: Our team structure, shape and focus on game play... with these the results will come.

How about your own game? Any areas you wish to improve on?
I: I want to be a utility player and be able to take on any positions assigned by the coach. Another area is my drag shot. I want to be able to execute the drag shot like Alvin... hahaha....

And as usual our supportive gals are always present to cheer the team on...

DXO: The aftermath...

It was a great night of fun and power pack dancing action... BLACKS Ladies and Men put their floorball footwork to the dance floor!!!

The RMIT Bash started with the pageant formalities of catwalk, saboing the participants and followed by the announcement of the winners. M4 and F2 (forgot the guy's name but remembered the girl winner Mandy) walked away as the winners of the 2006 pageant. The party's theme was "worker's scene" and the party was filled with gals and guys in kinky and "hot" costumes according to the theme (ie nurse & SQ stewardess). Following the pageant, the thumping music got underway for all to get groovy.

The night was great fun for all except when some buayas tried to strike at our lovely ladies. However, with the well drilled BLACKS men team around. The buayas simply could not break down our box play. (Sorry buayas, your power play sucks!)

Some of the pics from last night after...

Training for Seniors (Guys and Gals) and Newbie Gals...

Attn Blacks!

Training on Tuesday (15/8/2006)

Venue: Tampines Sports Hall
Time : 7pm

Let's get some kick-ass practice!

Another luckless day for BLACKS...

Lady luck was away again in the match against Taz Arowana. BLACKS lost 3-1 with 13 shots at goal as compared to Taz's 9 shots and even had shots hitting the goal posts except the net. However, the team play did have some improvements and it was a consolation point for the team. Even though BLACKS lost the game, centre Kenneth Koh #11 was named the MOM. Kenneth who has been playing floorball for a few years controlled the game play well and rightly deserved the MOM title. Let’s hear what he has to say for this match.

Another bad day, what’s wrong with the match?
K: Our match ah? Let me think...(scratching his chin) I think the 2nd and 3rd period we gave 100% but the 1st period we were practically sleeping! Unfortunately, they (Taz) scored 2 goals in the first 13 mins and it was too late for us before we woke up. Another point is that the entire team must play well together. It must not be a line by line for each match thing. I mean we cannot afford to have one line playing well and the other not; all must perform to win together. Consistency is king!

How is it being the MOM even though it’s a lost?
K: I’m glad to be the MOM but as all my team-mates would say is that I rather have a win. We must still win the remaining matches so that we will have a chance in the playoffs.

So which area should the team work on?
K: We need to work on taking first time shots, more composed defence and make faster passes.

How about your individual skills?
K: I want to finally master air hooking. It’s a really cool and difficult skill to execute. Another area is my 1st time shots.

Even though the game ended with a defeat, the day did not end in a solemn manner as it was coach Lionel's birthday! The team got a cake for him and blessed him with "showers of blessing" and a special "drop those shorts" ceremony. Some of the pics taken below:

No underwear to be seen here though, sorry gals : )

Getting ready for the cake...

I wish that BLACKS will stop dreaming in the 1st period...

Kaoz... how did I get wet and who pulled my shorts?!?!

Striking a pose for the camera...

Check out the "hunks"... can't see the pic clearly eh (that’s the point)....

Finally cutting the cake...

Unlucky Jordan got a red eye after being "kissed" by the ball during warm-up. (Hey Jordan! Watch the ball and not the gals. Just kidding) : )

Stay tune for more stories next week... Seeya...

3 a piece for BLACKS vs Hunters

Top of the table clash on Saturday saw both teams coming away with a point each. Both teams started cautiously and the 1st period ended goalless. The 2nd period saw more action with BLACKS coming back to level the game at 2 all before the break. BLACKS started the 3rd period better and took the lead but lady luck was on the Hunters' side as they stole a last minute equaliser to finish the game 3-3.

After the game, we spoke to the Man of the Match Adrian Chay to give us an insight of the game. Forward Adrian Chay Lup Seng #23, born on 23 April 1982 who just graduated from SIM played a good game and scored a goal in this match. Adrian, a righty with a unihoc stick admires basketball great Michael Jordan. Adrian who is a late starter in this sport had a bumpy start to this season but as each week passes, Adrian starts to grasp the game better and is peaking at the right time.

What a match! It's a pity they stole the equaliser in the dying minutes. What do you think of the match?
A: It was definitely exciting. It could have been better if we had won. It was really frustrating especially when our shots kept hitting the goal posts and even the goalie helmet but not the back of the net. Although it was a draw but it feels like a lost to me.

Cheer up! It's not bad a result. On a brighter note, how do you feel being named the Man of the match?
A: It was an honour but I got to improve. The man of the match would have been sweeter if we won the match. Nevertheless, being the MOM would spur me on to display a consistent performance week in week out.

So which area specifically you wish to improve on in the games to come?
A: I want to score as many as possible! It will be nice if I can assist those who have not score too. So I need to work on areas like my shooting and passing. To release the ball faster and assimilate into the play up tactics is also important.

Wishes for the next game?
A: Definitely winning the remainder of the league matches and I also wish those who don't get to play often will have more opportunities to do so.

We also had a short post match chat with Coach Lionel to find out his take on the game.

We should have won. What is your view on the game?
L: From the games that I see in Division 2, I dare say that we are one of the best team around. Each match our team takes an average of 20 plus shots on goal, however I would say not enough ends up in the back of the net. We will work on the finishing. At the end of the day, it was a sad game. The game should be ours but they came back to score an equaliser. We will still make it to the playoffs and win but not before I sort out the letup in the 3rd period. This is one area that we must focus on and that is to stop allowing opponents to score in the 3rd period.

The BLACKS Men's team would like to thank the Ladies for coming down to support every match. They made a difference and were like the 7th player for us. Thank You gals!

BLACKS Ladies Team seals first victory!!!

The friendly today at ITE College East ended with a win for our ladies in BLACK. Although it was only a friendly with only 2 periods of 30 mins, it was still important that the gals went for the victory. Their determination and true grit brought them a 3-2 win over the ITE College East ladies in the end.

The script did not go as planned when the ITE gals got the first goal against the round of play. Fortunately, Valerie broke through the defence and placed a top left hand corner shot to level the game. With plenty of opportunities at goal, our ladies pushed forward eagerly and were punished by another counter attack goal by ITE.

The story only got more exciting here when our newbies proved that the future is theirs by scoring the equalizer and the winner. Yasi who just converted from hockey smashed home from a side pass to tie the score at 2-2. Following that, Aziza grabbed the loose ball and put it into the net to send BLACKS home with their first victory. Ultimately, the win was only icing on the cake as it was the performance of all the newbies which made the victory sweeter. Well done gals!!!

(Sorry no pics today... there will be more pics in other BLACKS outings to come... stay tune!)
